Chapter Five

Damn the man could kiss. She pushed up on her toes, mashing her lips to his even more. He unfurled a hunger in her she wasn’t quite sure how to handle. In her pocket, her phone vibrated once more. Biting back a frustrated groan, she dug for it and broke free of the kiss at the last possible moment.

Nile.

“I have to take this one,” she said by way of apology. “Mr. Nile. Has there been a change of plans?”

“I’m in Atlanta tonight so will be there well after dark. Tomorrow, after I arrive, I’d like to see where you have plans to do the shoot, so I can figure out the lighting and also hear what your ideas are for the shots. I know it’s early, but I’ve had to jiggle my schedule around. I hope that’s not an inconvenience for either of you.”

Bastian gripped the front of her shirt, preventing any retreat. Her gaze lingered on his mouth. Shit, that was a lot sooner than she’d expected. “No, not a problem, at all. That’s a sound plan. Call me when you get to town. I’ll come pick you up and take you out to where we were thinking of doing the shoot. If it’s not something you think will work, let me know, and I’ll take you to the second thought. I’ll defer to you since you’re the professional. Neither of us want to not have a kickass picture for the calendar.”

“Sounds like a plan, Ms. Delahoussaye. I’ll be in touch, tomorrow.”

“Thank you, sir,” she replied before hanging up.

“He’s here?”

She gave him a wry grin. “Atlanta. Change of plans, so it will be happening sooner than later. So, he’ll be there tonight. Tomorrow, I’ll take him up to the falls, and if he doesn’t think it will turn out there, I was thinking Turbin Park. I’m sure he could do something with the trees to make it look like autumn in the shot. I believe that will work since you have the month of September.” She rocked back on her heels. “If that’s a plan that is agreeable for you.”

He tucked some hair behind her ear. “Yes. I’m holding up my end of the bargain.” He cleared his throat. “How long after the shoot is done are you planning on running away from me?”

“Running away? Me returning to my life isn’t running away.”

“Yes, it is. Look at what we have here.”

“You came home, stopped being a smoke jumper for this life. I came down here for one reason, helping Regina. I never made a decision that I was leaving my life in Chicago to live here and shack up with a man who, by all accounts, has been very busy with the women before I got here.”

“And who’s been a one-woman man since you arrived.” His gaze sharpened.

“By your own doing. I never asked for that.”

“So, you’re fine with me going out with other women?” His tone dropped and grew a dangerous edge to it.

“You made the decision to stop.
